We begin our trip from your hotel at El Calafate 7.00 am onwards. On our way of 250 km up to Lago del Desierto we will stop in La Leona, a historical outpost, and some lookouts up to el Chalten. Then we will continue driving the last 36 km along a mountain gravel road getting into the Andes range almost up to the border with Chile following the stream of Rio de las Vueltas reaching the origin of it; Lago del Desierto close to 12 pm.
Once at the Lake we will go on board the Huemul ship to navigate 30 minutes up to Vespignani Glacier Reserve.
In the Reserve we will be supervised by a ranger that will keep us safe. He will offer us to hike 45 minutes up the mountain, gaining 150 meters, along a beautiful trail up to the front of Vespignani Glacier, the largest and the most impressive of Lago del Desierto. What is more, up there, the views are incredible over the valley with the Lake and the north face of Fitz Roy Mountain.
If you want to choose for something easier, you can hike along the forest crossing little streams and next to the Lake enjoying the relaxing environment with all your senses.
Finally about 4 pm we will have a snack before boarding Huemul ship that will take us back up to Punta Sur were we will continue our way back to El Calafate to be back in there about 8.30pm.
